About the event
When asked if he had cut down the cherry tree a young George Washington told his father “I cannot tell a lie.” However, as an adult, America’s original spymaster was a master of deception and, yes, lies. Spies, Lies, and Unlikely Allies” is the story of spying during the American Revolution. Washington’s spying activities levelled the playing field against the British army, the most powerful in the world. As noted by British Intelligence officer George Beckwith, “Washington did not really outfight the British, he simply outspied us.”
